I've always been driven to create. As a child, I couldn't imagine doing anything else. That compulsion led me to become a designer, working for companies like Gemeente Amsterdam, Vodafone, Albert Heijn, and KPN, specializing in 3D animation and visual design.
My work is mixed media with artificial intelligence as its foundation. I discovered generative AI in 2023, and it felt immediately familiar—like 3D work, it required understanding variables, composition, and technical parameters. But AI is not the end of my process; it's the beginning. Each piece evolves through layers of intervention, refinement, and traditional techniques, creating something that exists beyond any single medium.
I call myself a post-photographic artist because my work challenges the boundaries between captured reality and constructed vision. Like photography did in its time, AI forces us to reconsider what we mean by “authentic” image-making. My process embraces this ambiguity.
My work centers on identity. In an era where identity seems more important than ever, this intersection of human and machine raises fundamental questions about what it means to be human. I'm drawn to the masters—Vermeer's intimate domestic scenes, Hopper's urban isolation—and to classical narratives and symbolism that have explored these themes for centuries.
Ideas come to me in three ways: an image that appears when I close my eyes. A moment on the street—a gesture, a look, a story unfolding. Or a work by another artist that sparks a question I need to answer.
Each piece asks: Who are we when machines can dream? What remains uniquely human? The answers, I believe, reveal themselves not in words but in the act of looking—in the spiritual experience of encountering art, regardless of how it was made.
